Taking care of your skin is THE most important thing that most people forget to or ineffectively do (wrong product for their skin, etc.) but all that is changing! I am so glad that many people are starting to carve out time out of their day to maintain a quick or extensive skincare routine to keep their skin looking it’s best. Truth is- if you’re not an Esthetician (with years of practice) it’s hard to know what information is valid, and what information may send your skin screaming! With so much misinformation out there I thought I’d share three common skincare myths that I constantly see and hear in the market from consumers and clients. If you want glowing skin, and you have no idea what to do, or don’t do, listen up!
Exfoliating daily is a must
While exfoliating is actually one of the top 3 best things for your skin, there is a such thing as over-exfoliation. Exfoliating rids dead skin cells, brightens the skin, and is an anti-aging ninja. So, you can see how it’s easy to go too far. There are multiple products you can use to exfoliate your skin, but that comes down to what type of skin you have and the conditions it’s experiencing. Exfoliate your skin three times a week, giving it time to rest and regenerate. Also, be gentle when exfoliating, it’s a marathon, not a race. Here’s how to find your perfect skin routine. No matter if your skin is Oily, Combo, or Dry.
Mixing skincare brands Is a no-no
Many people think that “mixing” skincare products and brands is a bad idea (great marketing on the brand’s behalf), and are under the impression that products should all be from the same line or brand so that they can “work better together.” Great for the brands, untrue for you! Feel free to absolutely use your favorite products from multiple brands together. PERIOD!
You only need sunscreen if you’re going outdoors on a sunny day
This is the most important! If you thought you only needed to apply sunscreen to the face when going to the beach or spending a sunny day outdoors, you’re not alone! The truth is, you should be wearing sunscreen every day- no matter what your day, or the weather consists of. There are two types of rays that emit from the sun. UVA (Aging rays), UVB (Burning rays)… get it? The burning (UVB) rays are what we associate getting a tan on the beach with. That’s where the skin cancer concern, etc. etc. comes from. But, the aging (UVA) rays are the sneaky, harmful ones that show through grey, cloudy, rainy skies which cause aging and scar tissue forever. Sound scary? It is! But, wearing a sunscreen of SPF 100 helps. By using sunscreen daily, you cut your chances of getting skin cancer in half, but you stay young forever. SCOOOREEEE!!!
Do your research, and talked to a licensed Esthetician when creating YOUR realistic skin routine! Love youuu!
