Ya’ll! The end of May is coming quick, which means we are just days away from June, a.k.a. SUMMER BAYYYYBEHHHH!! And yes, albeit it’s a little different this year. We can still get outside, play in the water, explore green spaces, and have (virtual) fun with friends!!
Being in direct sunlight is as good for the soul as it is for the mind and body. Vitamin D and endorphins? SIGN ME UP! While Florida beaches and some others have begun to open, the ones nearest you may or may not. But don’t let that stop you from spending every waking moment you can in a green space. Be it a national park or nature center, your local hiking trail or school track, or a walk up and down your street and then run through your sprinklers to cool off for a refreshing, and FUN day! JUST.GET.OUTSIDE, and releaseeeee.
Get up that morning, put on your sunscreen and comfy shoes, and HIT IT!! Feel free to pack up a picnic lunch & towels, and listen to your favorite podcast, book, or classical station, along the way. Or, simply Google a park near you with a lake or pond, so you can take a loop or two, and still get your summer vibes on. If you can’t get to a park use your own backyard! Set the summer tone with a portable speaker playing upbeat music and make yourself a fruity drink to sip on while laying out. Also, a drive with the windows down is the best.thing.ever, and something I do at LEAST once a week! I highly recommend!
Also, camping at home is so fun, and really brings adventure to an otherwise ordinary day! There are perks to camping in your yard vs a campground- including saving money on campground and travel fees! Break out the family tent and/or just your sleeping bags and a couple of comfy blankets and enjoy a beautiful night under the stars. Oh yeah- don’t forget that grill for food and smores. It’s.going.down! When the sun sets download a constellation app and see who can find the most. Trading campfire (a.k.a. life) stories before you crawl into your tent for a peaceful slumber (bear free!), is JUST the cure you need. TRUST ME!
Try different DIY projects! With some time on your hands, it’s time to get creative! There are so many fun projects like creating your own tie-dye apparel, growing crystals, gold mining, cross-stitching, and making friendship bracelets! The possibilities are ENDLESS (kits sold at local art supply store, and online). If you’ve never made homemade ice-cream… DO ITTTTTT!! It’s simple, quick, delicious, and requires things you already have in your fridge and pantry- I just KNOW IT! Also, if there was ever a time to explore gardening- it’s now. Growing your own plants, putting in hard work, nurturing and then eating or visually enjoying it is so satisfying!
Hope these ideas give you plenty to do, and with a lifted spirit! There is so much fun to be had! Happy exploring!
