Not sure about you- but being stuck indoors has me in the running for being crowned the, “Qurantine Snack Queen!” It’s so easy to snack or reach for the fridge when you’re stuck at home and can’t go to your favorite places for dinner, or restaurant brunches on the weekends with your friends. As an extroverted extrovert, I feel you, ya’ll. I.feel.you!
That’s why it’s so important to have a list of snacks that are tasty and binge-worthy, all while keeping your calories in check! Here’s the run-down on what I’ve always been, or am currently snacking on (during quarantine) !
Fresh Fruit, Regrouped!
There are so many delicious fruit options to snack on the possibilities seem endless. Enjoy raspberries, blueberries, watermelon, cantaloupe, strawberries, oranges, banana…. you get the point!! Oh, and next time you’re get groceries delivered or brave the stores, pick up the fruit cream dip on the produce aisle (the one that comes with the prepared fruit platters), and dip away! Or, just whiz fruit up with whatever liquid base you want, for a refreshing smoothie at home (Bye byeee $10 smoothie shop bill). Just make sure to portion your fruit out to avoid getting too much sugar!
Whatever and Hummus. Literally.
One of my favorite things to eat is hummus paired with anything. Literally. You name it, and it’s great with humus (believe me, I’ve tried it.. lol). Cucumbers, tomatoes, carrots, mild, sweet, or hot peppers, rice, every protein known to man (chicken, beef, turkey, seafood, pork, plant-based, you name it).
**CHEF V’s Tip** If you want to elevate your store bought hummus, stir it up in the container, drizzle olive oil, then top with fresh cracked pepper, and dried/fresh herbs like parsley, mint or cilantro. Or, make your very own crudité platter with it, and sprinkle some if you’re feeling fancy, some, “Everything But The Bagel seasoning”! The sky’s the limit, my friends!
What’s a more fun snack then popcorn?! Set up a movie and pop yourself some kernels- or better yet, a 100 calorie, “mini bag”, so that you know how much you’re consuming. Shake Ranch seasoning, cayenne pepper, simple or flavored syrup (and a sprinkle of salt to make a sweet and salty version), or just plain with cracked pepper is so fragrant and lovely! Whichever you choose, your taste buds, and on-the-go lifestyle will thank you!
Nuts are a great quick snack!! Enjoy cashews, almonds, sunflower seeds, pecans, or walnuts. Remix them with cayenne pepper!
